Technology Manager, Reliability Engineering Just Eat


It's our job to understand and serve the Just Eat customer. Who are the people that come to Just Eat to buy their meals online? What do they need? What can we do to make their experiences better? Our Technology department is revolutionising the way people interact with food online every day by exploring new channels, such as voice-controlled ordering and virtual reality. Our team also collaborates with other internal departments to make sure our products and tech are tailor made from top insights and industry expertise.

The opportunity

Just Eat is looking for a Technology Manager. This is a high profile, global role with the opportunity to make a significant impact across the business as we continue to grow.

As a Technology Manager, you will be seen as a partner to the wider business who can take responsibility for supporting a rapidly changing global e-commerce platform. You will manage the ongoing development of this change through the best use of the platform and the skills of the team that report into you. The role requires a well-rounded and upbeat person who can hit the ground running and build collaborative relationships to support the dynamic environment we operate in where speed to market and reliability are critical components of success.


As a Technology Manager, you are expected to be an effective people manager and be a hands-on SRE Engineer to support your team. This means you will have a proven history of operating modern software platforms. In addition to this, you will be responsible for the, engineering quality and execution of a product development team alongside your peers. You will work with our product manager, Senior SRE Engineers and Senior Tech Manager to design and implement solutions and services that support our engineering teams deliver and maintain reliable software in our production environments.

You’ll be accountable for:

  • The reliability, availability and support of Just Eat’s Production Environments through reductions in MTTR and improvements in MTBF.

  • Supporting our engineering teams deliver reliable software and services in production

  • Working with the wider Reliability Engineering department to deliver, enhance and maintain services that provide deployment pipeline, observability, data infrastructure and automation.

  • Fostering a strong team of cross functional members who can implement a vision articulated by your management chain.

  • Aligning your team goals with the needs of the business, engineering community and provide transparency into the decision making process and quantifying your teams effectiveness using appropriate metrics.

  • Structuring your team and assigning work in order to maximise your teams contributions in the areas of communication, productivity and innovation. .

  • Partnering with your peer managers to address cross-functional issues. This may require you to participate in cross-business initiatives.

  • Educating your customer/stakeholders on how to engage with your team so that they understand and can contribute to your priorities and roadmap. Although the ability to meet every customer expectations may sometimes be constrained, you ensure your customers are aware of how decisions are made, and you think creatively to solve their needs in innovative ways.

Running an effective team

This is a rare opportunity to lead a team of exceptionally skilled Engineers. As a Technology Manager you’ll take primary responsibility for ensuring the following happen within your team:

  • Generate enthusiasm and a sense of pride for both the features you build and the skills you apply to solving problems

  • Mentorship of less experienced professionals, both professional and technical

  • Inducting new members to your team, and instilling our common responsibilities and principles in them

  • Building and executing on personal development plans with team members

  • Regular 121 meetings with your direct reports

Required skills and experience
  • Previous Experience in an SRE/Operations or Engineering environment

  • Experience of Incident Management and/or Oncall support

  • Experience of working with one or more of the following: AWS, Grafana, Graphite, ELK, Ansible,, Windows, Linux

  • Experience working in an “at scale” Technology environment

  • Excellent understanding of how to coach others and how to drive a high performance culture

  • Proven track record of excellent stakeholder management and engagement skills

  • People management and team leadership experience
