About the role

ARM’s Partner Enablement Group (PEG) has the charter to ensure success for ARM’s customers by providing timely, leading-edge knowledge through innovative services. As a member of PEG, the role of the Applications Engineer is to provide ARM’s customers with Services, Training and Support to ensure their success in designing in ARM’s Cores and System IP. The role requires a mix of technical knowledge, personal skills and customer awareness.

The ARM Partner Enablement Group is responsible for “after-sales care” of ARM’s global customer base. This includes customer training, documentation, support, maintenance and consultancy.

You will be typically providing in-depth technical support by email to regional customers. Additional communication with customers will be by telephone, video conferencing and social media. You will occasionally be required to travel to support customers at their premises. You will work with the team to create training material and application notes to help teach customers about ARM’s CPU/GPU technology. In addition you will be supported in developing your skills as an ARM Trainer in order to co-present training classes to our customers worldwide. The successful applicant will also be expected to spend some time each year updating their technical product knowledge at one of ARM’s CPU/GPU design centres in either Cambridge UK; Bangalore India; Trondheim Norway; Sophia France; or Austin, USA.

What will I be accountable for?

  • Ensure timely and accurate resolution of customer’s technical issues
  • Work with the ARM Partner Enablement Group to ensure that the support and training is being deployed to the satisfaction of our customers
  • Work with the ARM CPU/GPU implementation and POP product teams to understand the challenges of physical implementation across a range of products and processes
  • Work closely with other ARM product groups to assess support requirements for new products
  • Prepare and maintain material for customer support including training materials, white papers and application notes
  • Mentor junior team members to grow technical and customer-communication skill
  • Review technical documentation, including application notes, technical reference manuals and FAQS
  • Identify requirements for and coordinate the development and presentation of training materials for customers
  • Work closely with global Applications Engineering Teams, including those located in regional offices, to ensure knowledge transfer
  • Role will involve domestic and international travel to deliver training and also to meet with other ARM Regional AE teams

Job Requirements

What skills, experience and qualifications do I need?

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 7+ years of high performance, low power physical implementation experience on advanced process nodes, ideally using Arm processor cores
  • Detailed knowledge of all parts of the physical design flow including synthesis, place & route, power analysis, static timing analysis and physical sign-off
  • Understanding of physical library design and process technology
  • Familiarity with advance technology nodes (sub-16nm) including DRC/LVS/PDK
  • Knowledge of low power implementation methodologies
  • Understanding of physical implementation quality metrics and how to trade-off to achieve required results
  • Experience of working closely with customers, providing technical support and training
  • An ability to think under pressure, especially in front of customers and to provide logical and accurate problem analysis
  • Good spoken and written English
  • Strong understanding of microprocessors (Arm based processors a plus)

Experience Desirable skills:

  • Implementation and Physical Library
    • Experience of Verilog or VHDL
    • Perl, TCL, Python, Scheme or other scripting language
    • Familiarity of Unix/Linux working environment
    • Experience of chip ‘tape-outs’
    • Exposure to multiple EDA tool vendor design flows
    • Knowledge of Arm technology, culture and the business model
    • Understanding of Arm system architectures and end market applications
  • DFT/MBIST
    • Understand top/block-level scan and MBIST insertion, including jtag, scan compression, boundary scan, at-speed, ATPG pattern generation and simulation
    • Familiar with MBIST interface and DFT signals usage in Arm IPs
    • Experience on DFT/MBIST flow in Synopsys, Cadence or Mentor Graphics
    • Strong knowledge in timing constraint and physical implementation
    • Hands-on experience in either one of EDA vendor’s SCAN/MBIST solution and methodology (e.g. scan compression, IEEE1500, IEEE1149.1, etc.)
    • Experienced in test coverage analysis and improvement via ATPG, capable of silicon diagnosis is a plus
    • Hands-on experience in simulation setup and debug

About the office

The Arm Hsinchu Design Center is home to engineers primarily supporting the CPU, Physical Design, Partner Enablement and Sales divisions that work closely with key partners MediaTek and TSMC. Hsinchu is located a quick 30 minute bullet train ride away southwest of Taipei and similar to Taipei, the city offers an abundance of delicious and cheap food as well as plenty of outdoor activities.
