We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Scientist with a strong background in biology of Host & Microbe interaction to join the RIA Research Department in Gaithersburg, MD, and take a role in developing strategy and delivering novel solutions to design microbiome-based interventions for respiratory diseases. Our team collaborates with Microbial Sciences researchers to drive projects targeting lung microbiome and host defense mechanisms in respiratory diseases, such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). You will be expected to lead a small team (2 reports), and drive research projects to increase our understanding of the role of lung microbiome and its interaction with host immune system as a regulator of disease development and as a cause of disease exacerbations. You will be expected to identify new targets for drug discovery and development, and contribute to the design and development of portfolio projects in collaboration with Translational Medicine and Clinical Development. Our team works closely with academic partners and you will be expected to create potential external collaborations to enhance our success in drug discovery. Regular presentations and publications of cutting-edge science are expected in this position.
The research will be conducted in Medimmune's state-of-the-art laboratories located in Gaithersburg, Maryland, outside Washington, DC area. The successful candidate will beneﬁt from daily interaction and collaboration with other highly accomplished scientists with diverse areas of expertise with whom they will collaborate. - PhD in Life Sciences with 3-7 years of relevant PostDoctoral Research experience; or Master's degree in Life Sciences with 10-13 years of relevant experience; or Bachelor's Degree in the Life Sciences with 13-15 years of relevant experience
- Extensive knowledge in biology of host and microbe interaction
- Demonstrated ability to conduct high-level, cutting edge research projects
- Strong publication record, including 4+ first-author publications in high-impact journals
- Prior experience in lung biology and mucosal immunology
- Highly motivated and capable of working independently as well as collaboratively
- Major techniques experience includes:
Cell co-culture models
Immunohistochemistry and confocal microscopy
- In vivo expertise
- Highly organized, with strong data presentation/communication skills
- Industry experience is strongly preferred but not a requirement
- Image analysis experience is desirable
