The opportunity

Role: Finance Director, Spain

Department: Finance

Reports to: Country Manager

Location: Madrid

This is a key member of the Spanish management team. Reporting to the Country Manager, the successful candidate needs to forge strong relationships with local management and work closely with the EU leadership team including the EU Finance Director, and other stakeholders in the Group functions. The candidate will need to utilise their experiences in helping push the business as revenue grows beyond €40m in 2019. This is a crucial phase in the company’s history which cannot be underestimated. The company is aspiring to become a jewel in the Group’s portfolio, not only for its top-line performance, its culture and dynamic work ethic. All of which will be driven in part by the successful candidate.


Core Responsibilities:

  • Provide strong leadership to the ES Finance function, ensuring that the team works as a hands-on business partner, proactively challenging and supporting the wider business.

  • Inspire, influence, lead by example and day to day management and development of the Spanish finance team including leadership of 4 people.

  • Collaborate effectively within a matrix organisation, working with key stakeholders such as the EU leadership team, other EU country Finance Directors, and Group Finance.

  • Business partner with department heads to support and challenge their initiatives and to ensure we maximise the efficiency and effectiveness of our investments. Champion an ROI culture and coach the business to improve their own financial skills.

  • Provide ongoing and in-depth financial analysis and insight to understand the ongoing KPI and financial performance of the business and support the overall business strategy for Just Eat ES; help to identify trends and inform decision making.

  • Lead the planning and forecasting process, supporting the ES Leadership team as it reviews and re-plans its investments throughout the year.

  • Ownership of all financial information. This includes the P&L, balance sheet and cash flow for the Company. These need to be prepared and submitted to a tight timetable to a high level of accuracy.

  • Ensure strong financial controls alongside accurate and insightful budgeting, forecasting, KPI & reporting processes to facilitate effective oversight and commercial decision making.

  • Help develop and implement the financial, tax, treasury and risk frameworks to deliver the company strategy.

  • Oversee and deliver against all statutory and regulatory financial requirements

  • Evaluate and update all procurement contracts such that relationships are formed with all key suppliers.

  • Support M&A and corporate transaction activity where applicable.

Required skills and experience
  • Degree educated with a robust academic profile and ideally a professional accounting qualification.

  • Well rounded, with strong breadth of experience across all areas of Finance with at least 7 years of experience in various roles of the finance organisation

  • Experience of high growth and or logistics/high opex businesses would be advantageous. In addition relevant of consumer facing and/or Tech/e-commerce would be beneficial.

  • Core experience anchored in Finance but with the commercial instinct to drive value and performance in the wider business

  • Demonstrable experience in improving business practices, creating efficiencies and improving team performance both in finance, and across the organisation

  • Experience of implementing an ERP system would be beneficial as the Company is in the middle of upgrading its ERP and information systems.

  • Approachable, with the ability to communicate and influence all stakeholders.

  • Able to work well within a fast paced environment. High levels of energy.

  • Impeccable integrity and a strong work ethic.

  • Calculated risk taker who is sensitive to changing priorities and able to work as a change agent within the business

  • Able to set clear goals, devise plans, attend to appropriate details, meet deadlines, and inspire others to move in an established direction
